Tandoori Prawns Indian Recipe

Ingredients

500 g
large raw prawns, peeled and deveined (tails on optional)
1/2 cup
plain yoghurt
1 tbsp
ginger paste
1 tbsp
garlic paste
1 tbsp
lemon juice
1 tbsp
vegetable oil
1 tsp
red chilli powder
1 tsp
turmeric
1 tsp
garam masala
1/2 tsp
cumin powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
black pepper
Optional
red food colouring for classic tandoori colour

Recipe - Instructions for tandoori Prawns 

1. Make the marinadeWhisk yoghurt, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, oil, chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala, cumin, salt, and pepper until smooth.
2. Coat the prawnsAdd prawns to the marinade and mix well. Rest for 10–20 minutes.
3. CookGrill, pan‑sear, or air‑fry at high heat for 6–10 minutes until charred and just cooked through.
4. ServeGarnish with lemon wedges and fresh coriander. Serve with mint chutney or raita.

Ingredients (Serves 2)
  • 300–400g raw prawns, peeled & deveined

  • 2 tbsp low‑fat Greek yoghurt

  • 1 tsp ginger paste

  • 1 tsp garlic paste

  • 1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder (or mild paprika for less heat)

  • ½ tsp turmeric

  • ½ tsp garam masala

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • ½ tsp salt

  • Optional: ½ tsp smoked paprika for extra “tandoor” flavour

  • Spray oil (just 2–3 sprays)

Instructions

1. Make the low‑cal marinade

Mix yoghurt, ginger, garlic, spices, lemon juice, and salt. The yoghurt keeps calories low while still giving that creamy tandoori texture.

2. Coat the prawns

Add prawns and toss well. Marinate 15–20 minutes , prawns absorb flavour quickly, so no long wait needed.

3. Air‑fry

  • Preheat air fryer to 190°C

  • Lightly spray the basket

  • Lay prawns in a single layer

  • Cook 6–7 minutes, flipping halfway They should be lightly charred at the edges and juicy inside

4. Serve

Top with lemon juice, fresh coriander, and a sprinkle of chaat masala (optional).
